A Message from the President....

Dear Guests,

I'm pleased to offer a selection of your favorite railway journeys as we begin our 23rd season. 

In order to allow flexibility in your vacation planning, our luxury weekend railway journeys will no longer be offered only on fixed pre-set dates.  Private charters will now be available throughout the season on the date of your choice at surprisingly affordable flat-rate fares.  We're sure everyone has a small circle of friends or family that will love our fine personalized vacation experiences.

Hudson Valley Explorer:  We've been busy redecorating and improving our dining car "Epicurus".  New interior decor will take you back to that glorious streamlined era of the 1950's out west on the "Santa Fe" when travel was actually an enjoyable experience.  Guests will also enjoy the benefits of modernized cooking facilities and state-of-the-art audio-visual entertainment.  There's always a sense of place as our GPS tracking system pinpoints your location .  New lower "freedom fares" allow you to plan your own destination activities.

Unfortunately with each passing year it becomes more and more difficult to operate our vintage railcars.  Witness the many northeast railtour operators that have left the market....such as Four Winds, American European Express, Acadian Railway etc.  Amtrak's very existence is threatened by the Bush Administration's focus on forcing cuts in routes and service quality in order to "improve" train service....while encouraging passengers to travel aboard fuel-guzzling high-polluting aircraft instead.  I believe our nation needs to decrease its reliance on foreign oil in part by enhancing the availability and attractiveness of fuel-efficient rail transportation.  The federal government spends freely on interstate highways,  waterways, airports and airport security but seemingly cannot provide consistent support for intercity rail service. 

Despite our fantastic safety record, insurance has become more difficult to obtain and  premiums are increasing exponentially.  The host railroads continue to raise operating fees while imposing additional restrictions on our carriage.  Now is your chance to slow down and escape from the "bare bones" jet set.  Enjoy this very civilized mode of  transportation where travel is still a "sense of occasion" and the vacation begins as soon as you board the train.  I suggest that you reserve a place with us now as the opportunity may not be able if you keep "waiting till next year".
