A Message from the President....

Dear Guests,

As people stay closer to home this year and celebrate New York's 400th anniversary we are pleased to offer our inexpensive Hudson Valley Explorer train throughout the Summer and Autumn months.  Yes it has been 400 years since Captain Henry Hudson led the first European expedition up the river that now bears his name! 

By popular request we have extended our train north to serve Lake George, Saratoga Springs and Vermont.  We've also been busy redecorating and improving our exclusive dining car "Epicurus".  New interior decor will take you back to that glorious streamlined era of the 1950's out west on the "Santa Fe" when travel was actually a pleasant experience.  Guests will enjoy the benefits and state-of-the-art audio-visual entertainment and there's always a sense of place as our large GPS monitors pinpoint your exact location. 

In order to allow flexibility in your vacation planning, our luxury weekend railway journeys will now be offered as private charters available throughout the season on the date of your choice at surprisingly affordable flat-rate fares.  We're sure everyone has a small circle of friends or family that will love our fine personalized vacation experiences.

Unfortunately with each passing year it becomes more and more difficult to operate our vintage railcars.  Witness the many northeast railtour operators that have left the market....such as Four Winds, American European Express, Acadian Railway, American Orient Express, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys, etc.  I believe our nation needs to decrease its reliance on foreign oil in part by enhancing the availability and attractiveness of fuel-efficient rail transportation.  The federal government spends freely on interstate highways,  waterways, airports and airport security but seemingly cannot provide consistent support for intercity rail service.  Fortunately the new Obama administration is a firm supporter of Amtrak's continued survival and improvement.  

Now I invite you to slow down and escape from the "bare bones" jet set.  Enjoy our very civilized mode of transportation where travel is still a "sense of occasion" and the vacation begins as soon as you board the train.  I suggest that you reserve a place with us now as the opportunity may not be able if you "wait till next year".
