It is our utmost desire to "thank you" for the great time we had on the Canadian trip.  We travel quite a lot---but I must say we enjoyed that trip the most of all.....They were the nicest hotels, best food, best trains anyone would ever want.  We will always have fond memories of that trip....F.A. A guest on many of our trips, Charlie has traveled every continent to over 80 countries!  He writes about a 2005 trip with us.....I joined a trip billed as a "Niagara Weekender Deluxe railway Journey".....Properly attired for a Private Varnish trip in Jacket and Tie I waited on the platform at Pennsylvania Station....I was startled to see "Hickory Creek" an ex-TWENTIETH CENTURY LIMITED round-end observation car appear.  Under restoration for seven years it is back virtually to "as built" condition and this was the maiden voyage under new management.  Its twin car "Sandy Creek" now runs on the American Orient Express deluxe tour train as their "New York".  The "Hickory Creek" consists of a raised floor observation lounge section with its signature extra-large windows.  This is accompanied by a cocktail lounge seating eight.  In front are four double bedrooms and a complete galley.  Externally it is completely "as built" carrying the classic Pullman nameboard and blue-lit drumhead sign re-created on the tail end.  A word on private railcar travel for those poor unfortunates who have never experienced it:  Gourmet Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served and the Bar (if you are so inclined?!) is open nearly continuously.  You recline on couches and watch the scenery slide by at 100mph and enjoy the amazed, envious stares of those "Peasants" who peer in from the platform at every station stop!  For me it was particularly nostalgic as my very first job ever took me to Chicago and I "commuted" back and forth on the century, riding on this very car.  Of course the beauty of the NYC "Water Level Route" up the Hudson River to Albany then along the Mohawk River and Erie Canal need hardly be retold........
